Dundee ‘Thriving Not Surviving’

Dundee Council and the University of Dundee

summary of project

This project involved working with two local communities in Dundee in an intergenerational project. The groups explored what they felt about their locality, using creative arts to look at what they were proud of and valued, and what they wanted to change. This project combined creative arts with participatory action research to create two reports.

Local residents and workers of Dundee council were invited to take part in a series of creative sessions to learn about filmmaking and create their own films. The people involved held presentations of their work alongside a facilitated discussion for Dundee Council Staff and Stakeholders including members of Scottish Government. In some of the discussion events, creative workshops took place demonstrating to stakeholders the nature of the consultation process behind the creative results. Feedback from Dundee Council was that the project improved cooperation between council departments and helped to broker new housing solutions in Linlathen. The resources created are currently being used by the council as examples of an innovative community engagement model.
