FILM CLUB

Every Friday we run the Media Education young persons Film Club, where we watch, discuss and make films. We run practical film making challenges every week so that participants can get stuck in right away.

We aim to create a fun, creative and welcoming social space for young people with a wide variety of skills and abilities, including those with additional support needs.

Kat Custard from Fabb Scotland had this to say about our film club:

“We at Fabb Scotland currently run a project supporting young people with additional needs into mainstream activities in their community. A couple of young people were interested in joining Media Education’s film club and due to the enthusiasm and support of the staff working there have integrated into the club, attend regularly and are really enjoying the weekly sessions.

“The film club is incredibly welcome and supportive to all members including those with additional needs. We’ve found that the creative and informal approach has enabled the young people to feel instantly comfortable there, so much so that after a few weeks with a Fabb worker they were confident to attend on their own.

“For one participant with Autism, he was very keen to fit into a club as a ‘normal’ teenager where the focus wasn’t on his additional need. The film club has enabled this to happen and has been hugely beneficial for his confidence and self-esteem – he looks forward to the activities as well as the social aspect each week.”

If you’re between 13 and 20 years old and interested in coming along, or know some who would be, get in touch with Shaun at shaun@mediaeducation.co.uk or phone our office on 0131 313 8900.

Friday Film Club is a collaborative project between Media Education and Voice For Change.
