The first programme of Creating Waves workshops ran for 12 weeks in early 2016 and was funded by CashBack for Creativity.
Creating Waves is a 12 week programme of creative workshop sessions, where young people aged 10-18 explore presenting, reporting, creative writing for radio, drama for radio, field recording, soundscape building, sound art, creative editing in Garage Band and Adobe Audition, and radio broadcast.
The first block of Creating Waves workshops featured masterclasses from Scottish writer and Arvon tutor, Susie Maguire; as well as from sound artist and producer of Radiophrenia, Mark Vernon; and included a creative drumming workshop run in collaboration with the Edinburgh Mela.
The 14+ age group attended a day trip to Station House Media Unit in Aberdeen, where they worked with the shmuFM team to present a live radio show, and in September, the group also attended an event at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow as part of Radiophrenia, where their Creating Waves soundscapes were broadcast live.
Each age group created a series of creative and narrative soundscapes, featured below and on our SoundCloud.
Creating Waves is a collaborative project between Media Education and Voice For Change.
