We’re excited to once again be working as part of the Scottish Young Carers Festival. We’ve just completed our yearly Radio Training Residential where we teach the SYCF radio team the skills they need to be radio presenters for the festival.
Organised by Carers Trust in Scotland, the Festival, which is funded by the Scottish Government, takes place in August every year (this year, the 4th-6th) and is held at the Broomlee Outdoor Centre in West Linton. Activities at the Festival include a Festival’s Got Talent show, performances from live bands, a silent disco, workshops on animation, dj-ing and stage make-up and dozens of other activities.
On the final day of the Festival attendees are joined by MSPs, councillors and health, education and council officials. The young carers will get the chance to speak to the guests and tell them what life is like as a young carer and how vital it is that services for young carers continue.
Carers Trust Scotland is the lead organisation in delivering the Festival with support from the Scottish Young Carers Services Alliance, Shared Care Scotland, Barnardo’s, Carers Scotland and Children 1st.
Media Education works with the Young Carer Media Team to run SYCFm, the Festival’s live radio station, as well as the video consultation tent where Young Carers are given the opportunity to record their thoughts on being a Young Carer.
See you there!
